Aji Santoso Named New U-23 Manager

Tobapos -- The All-Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) appointed Aji Santoso as U-23 national soccer team manager at its executive committee's meeting here on Saturday, replacing Rahmad Darmawan.

Aji Santoso, Darmawan's assistant for the U-23 national soccer team during the SEA Games 2013 in Myanmar, will begin his new duties by preparing the national team for the Asian Games 2014, to be held in Incheon, South Korea.

"The appointment of Aji Santoso is based on several considerations. Aji is seen by BTN as having experience in handling the team since the last SEA Games. What is more, the team he will handle has not changed much," PSSI Secretary General Joko Driyono said.

Aji, one-time manager of the Surabaya-based Persebaya football club, will be assisted by two experienced assistants, Mustaqim and Muhammad Zein Alhadad, in training the U-23 national team.

With the appointment of the new manager and assistant managers of the U-23 national team, Joko said PSSI would soon coordinate with the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), the National Olympic Committee (KOI) and the Youth and Sports Ministry in preparing the national team for the Asian Games.

"PSSI will be proactive by writing to them on Monday (Jan 27)," he said.

Also present at the meeting of the PSSI executive committee at the Sangri-La Hotel in Surabaya were General Chairman Djohar Arifin, Deputy General Chairman La Nyalla Mattalitti, and members of the PSSI executive committee, including Roberto Rouw, Erwin Dwi Budiawan, Tony Aprilani, Hardi Hasan, Zulfadli, Djamal Aziz and La Siya.
