Police hunts two tin ore smugglers

Tobapos -- Police in Bangka district, Bangka Belitung Islands province, have placed two suspected tin ore smugglers on the wanted list.

"They were on the wanted list after they had ignored summons for questioning," chief of the Bangka Belitung district police Adj. Snr. Comr. I Bagus Rai stated here on Thursday.

He pointed out that the hideouts of the two suspects, identified by their initials as AS and AK, remained unclear.

"We have put them on the wanted list as they were not cooperating with the summons issued," he stated.

The police had searched the houses of the two suspects, residents of Pangkalpinang and Sungailiat cities, but they could not be found there, he added.

"While we were searching AK's house, we seized illegal diesel oil and tin ore sale notes," he pointed out.

Police suspected AS and AK of attempting to smuggle out 23.7 tons of tin ore through Bedukang port in Riau Silip sub-district, Bangka district. (ant/mar)

"We managed to foil the smuggling of tin ore worth more than Rp1 billion a while ago, thanks to tip-offs from the public," he stated.

Police have also named two other suspects in the smuggling attempt. They are identified by their initials AH of Jakarta and PO of Sungailiat.

I Bagus Rai did not rule out the possibility that the number of suspects might increase.

"We are hunting down the two people on the wanted list. We know their identities. Hopefully, they will surrender before the police arrest them to facilitate the investigation process," he pointed out. (ant/tin)
