Tobapos -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has passed a resolution on the formation of the Contact Group on Peace and Conflict Resolution (CG-PCR), originally proposed by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
"The CG-PCR should be used as a forum to share experiences, strategies and knowledge in the search of common solutions on challenges faced by the Muslim people," Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi said at the OIC ministerial meeting in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, according to a statement from the ministry received on Wednesday, as reported by The Jakarta Post.
Initiated by Jokowi in 2015, the CG-PCR aims to serve as a forum for OIC member countries to share experiences and strategies on a wide range of political and security matters in the Islamic world, as well as to provide input for a solution that is both functional and action-oriented, the statement said.
The consultative forum would be a platform to draw up joint strategies to face problems such as radicalism, extremism and terrorism that could emerge in the context of both intra-state and inter-state conditions.
The OIC member countries, along with the organization's secretariat are expected to further discuss the modalities and format of the CG-PCR meeting to ensure that these forums are focused and are member-state driven. (adm)
